np231 wont go into 4 lo.

Title says all.. she won't go to 4 lo. It's not my linkage, that's not even connected since my AX15/231 swap in a ZJ. After takin her out wheel in first time since the swap, 4hi works great everyrhings nice and tight. I was goin into some heavy stuff so I hopped out to hit 4 lo and when I popped it in 4lo it acted like it was in neutral with an occaisional grinding noise as if the shift fork isn't sliding all the way over. Could I have forgotten to put something back in when I replaced the chain? Or does this seem like a bent/broken fork? On the road in 2wd when I hit a bump or high rpm it makes the same noise like its trying to shift into 4 lo. The fluid is not old enough to have any noticeable discoloration. Any body got any input before I crack this sucker open?
