not sure whats wrong with the I6

i have a 02 WJ and today and before while im driving a long distance the engine will act up. wat it will do is while im driving out of nowhere just start acclerating slow around 1700-2000 rpm and will not accelerate any harder no matter where i put my foot and will quit eventualy and will come back even when im sitting still and take off it feels like im not gonna go anywhere. and it never happens when im in town just driving around.
