Anyone know of anything to put on a belt to keep it from squeeking? I had this squeeking noise at idle that I thought was the alternator going... i picked up one from a junkyard and swapped it in. The noise diappeared for a day or two but then came back EXACTLY as before.
So now I'm thinking it's the belt after all and want to isolate the problem if possible. Would the parts store have something for this, or does anyone know of anything around the house that would work?

I would just get a new belt instead of prolonging the problem.

The reason I was avoiding replacing the belt at first was that it was just replaced recently and had alot of life left in it. I found this belt dressing spray at the parts store so I tried it. The squeeling noise at idle went away but then it would squeel really bad over 2000 rpms.... I ended up at the junkyard the other day and decided to look around. I found a belt for my engine that looked even better than my relatively new one so I took it and best of all they just gave it to me for free. Took about 5 minutes to swap in the parking lot and my drive home was nice and quiet.
