New or rebuilt trasmission???

4.0 6 L 99 TJ 137miles
What am I getting into??
The noise was real bad and thought it was the through out bearing. Clutch was replaced and e bearing was bad but the growling still exists.

When the clutch is out at an idle, 1st, 2nd and 3rd sound horrible. What should a new transmission cost? What about a rebuilt one?

Unless you are doing it. You need a shop. Shop time and even a rebuilt wont be cheep. If you could get used one cheep, but most shops wont want to warranty a used trans.

Unless you get lucky, there is no way you will find a new transmission as your vehicle is too old for Jeep to have them in stock. You are therefore limited to another used transmission of unknown quality, to a rebuilt transmission, or to rebuilding your current transmission.

Somewhere I saw a HD version that was about the same cost.
