New Jeeper

Just got my daughter a 1995 Jeep wrangler the 4.0 HO motor has a knock when it starts and higher rpm. The motor has 235k on it. I want to replace it before she blows! Can I use any 4.0 jeep motor?

As long as you reuse the accessories and the valve cover, you should be good. Just make sure it has the same belt routing.

Try and get something close to the same year. They only made them for a few applications so the basic block and cylinder heads should be very much the same. The brackets on the sides are the main concern but if you ask at a machine shop or junkyard they should have some info for you.

What brand of oil filter is on that 4.0? Oil pressure readings on the gauge?

Try this. Remove the Fram filter, leaving the present oil in it if it's fairly clean, and put a Wix or Napa Gold filter on it. See what happens.

Fram = complete junk.
Do as already suggested and change it out with a good filter.
