Motor Swap

I have a 97 jeep grand cherokee 2WD 4.0 & im buying a 98 jeep grand cherokee 4WD 4.0...
The 97 motor is bad, So i wanted to swap out the 97 motor for the 98 Motor
What i wanted to no is, is there a diffrence between 4x4 transmission and a 2WD transmission?
Besides The Transfer case, will the 2WD Transmission bolt up to the transfer case?

The 2wd and 4wd transmissions are not interchangeable. The tail housing on the 4wd is shorter and has mounting points for the transfer case. The output shaft of the 4wd is made to go into a t-case, not a drive shaft.

So will the 4.0 motor that comes out of the 98 4x4 bolt right in to the 97 2wd

Most likely have to swap a sensor or too or maybe even just to whole intake would be easier, but I believe the block and cylinder head are both the same

its a rusty one

I have the same question except I'm looking to put a i6 from a 98 Cherokee into an 03 grand Cherokee. Both 4x4, is this possible? One has a cap and rotor and the other don't.
