manifold swap

what is involved in swapping a 91 intake to a 99+ intake? I know it gives great hp boost combined with a 60mm TB and rusty air tube. but what does it take to do the swap?

Also is it worth it?

I know SEARCH but guess what the search feature went bye bye SUCKAS!!!

If you noticed in the article, he aslo swapped injectors and maybe a few other parts. I doubt the manifold alone would net 26 hp gain. I'd say 5 hp on a stock and 10 on a highly modified motor and maybe a bit more on a stroker. The cost of the manifolds seems to have come down a lot. I think $50-75 for the manifold. Also, check out Go-Jeeps site:

I know he swapped injectors and removed the clutch fan. I've heard of other people having large gains from the swap though. Dino Savva claimed a 14hp gain.

I'm on a few other web boards. Two of them Dino frequents. I've never seen him claim a 14 hp gain from this swap. I haven't heard or seen him do this swap. The other guy posted that info on one of these boards. If I remember, Dino had simular or more doubts about the gains than I did. I think the swap is worthwhile, though. On Go-Jeeps page he does reference a 25 hp gain on a race motor. I've heard of a few people claiming a loss of power and MPG with this swap. At the beginning of the article, he states he wants to prove what the intake manifold swap is worth. Once he changed more than two items at once, we don't know where the improvements came from. Did the injectors add that much? Was it a combination of injectors and manifold? Did the increase in fuel pressure add the HP? It was a month time span between dyno test. I figure he didn't use the same gas. Thats another change. How much affect, probably slight.
In the other boards post we went round and round about this. He said he would change back to the original injectors and vary the fuel pressure. I haven't seen any results from that. I do think there is a lot in his write up. I do like his flow meassuring setup. I do think the measuring would be better if it was taken at the top of the runner and with an injector installed.

On Jeeps Unlimited I could have sworn I saw him say 14hp. Well, I know GoJeep did the swap and loved the power gains and estimated 25hp. I would do the swap becuase it sounds good to me.

Off of Go-Jeeps site:
"In my quest for more torque at low revs and better efficiency my research came across a totally new intake manifold. These were fitted to XJ's, TJ's and ZJ's from mid 1999 to the end of production in 2002. You can use one from any of these models I have been told. These manifolds are good for 15 hp according to a Jeep engineer that told me that they had to come up with a way to bring the power back up after new emission changes cost them 15 hp. ( smaller exhaust ports and twin catalytic converters plus software changes among the changes ). So that is why the newer Jeeps are only rated 3 hp more than before. Of course though if you fit one of these manifolds to a earlier Jeep without the different emission you get a 15 hp boost! Those running strokers even more as JeepSpeed mention a 25 hp gain on there race engines just with this change!"

I didn't read anywhere he said, he got a 25 hp increase. Its a 25 hp increase in a full race motor. I will agree that the more modified the motor, the more increase in HP this swap will have. I have one hanging on my motor. So, yes I think its a good swap. I think saying it yeilds 26 hp gain is up there with a lot of claims for performance parts.

I've got a stroker in the works and I'm planning on one of the newer intake manifolds as part of it. Anyone know where to get one?

Try here:
http://www.car-part.com/
Its a lsiting of various "Auto parts recyclers". At the bootm look for the page with an "*" after you've done your search. Thats the lowest listed price.
