Loud growling noise when I steer.

When I drive my 99 grand cherokee for more than 10min, it starts to make a growling noise when I steer left and sometimes right. Then noise is really loud and it sometimes makes the truck shake. I took it to a shop and they test drove it to hear the noise but since I had only been driven around the shop it didnt make any noise so the mechanic said he didnt hear anything when he drove it and so he just said to bring it back if it happens again. Any mechanics in this forum that can help me out.
