just bought a 98 5.9 limited. hard to start.

hey. i am new here. just bought my first jeep. picked a real nice platinum silver 1998 jeep grand cherokee limited with the 5.9. i love it. but its hard to crank when its cold. once its cranked it runs perfect, once its warmed up itll crank instantly. i was told that it may be a fuel filter issue, somethin with the check valve. but i dont see a filter in the frame rails where i thought it was. is this a fuel pump issue? or am i way off base all together?
