Jeep 304 with th400

I have a 1976 cj7 with a 304 and a turbo 400. Its a quadratrac. I'm wanting to put a Chevy 350 in and I understand that jeep used an adapter plate on some years. My question is can that be removed to bolt up to the 350, or would I need a new bell housing?

I have a 1975 CJ5 and when I bought it, it came with a 350 and a TH 400 installed. I then decided to Stroke the engine and made it a 383. The only adapter that I saw was from the TH 400 to the Dana 300 Transfer. My mecanic told me that the shaft on the tranny was longer also. Hopefully this helps or maybe someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

The Turbo 400 in your Jeep had a special housing/case to mate to the AMC engine bolt pattern. It is unique.

I know this thread is old, but incase someone comes across this in the future....

Advanced Adapters makes an adapter that works with the Chevy V8 and the Jeep TH400 for '74 and newer transmissions. I used it and its about the only thing in my swap that seemed to have worked without problems!!
