ignition Q's

I have a 1994 XJ w/ 4.0L and auto. I am curious about all of these performance ignition products (Jacobs, crane, MSD). Sounds like an easy upgrade in MPG's and a few more ponies. Are these systems for real? Which one is the best way to go? The MSD seems the most popular, The jacobs has a good reputation, and the crane is on sale right now. Are they all the same? Are the gains worth the $$$? Thanks for the input!

IMHO, if you're running a stock 4.0L '94 motor, you won't notice much of a difference, compared to someone with an older motor, maybe a little hopped-up, and carbureted.

Just my opinion. I have a '96 XJ with the 4.0L, and I can't imagine that I would get much better spark by upgrading to one of the high performance systems. A good set of plugs and wires should do you well.

Now, my '77 CJ-7 with the '72 360ci, that's another story altogether. It's already been upgraded by the previous owner from points to electronic ignition. But, if I throw one of the high-performance systems on there, I'd expect to notice the difference.

THanks for the info, 4wheeler4CJ. So, what wires and plugs do you recommend? How about the Jacobs? They guarentee at least a 10% mileage increase...what about the D.U.I. system? Looking fo ra litlle power but mostly increased MPG's....thanks a lot!!

Honestly, any company that tells you their spark plug wires will give you a 10% increase in MPG is smoking crack. Not going to happen (no offense).

Your best mileage can be had by making sure you change the oil, filter, and air filter often, use good gas, and keep the engine tuned.

Any set of quality wires will be good, I like Belden Wires (been around forever, time-tested), but there are many others. Accel is just cheap imitation crap, don't even bother with them, LOL. Jacobs wires are probably good, but don't expect 10% increase in MPG from them. Any good plugs, Bosch, Champion, etc.
