If you have a ring issue it would be constant, rings don't work and then work again. You most likely have a exhaust guide seal that is now in the pan collecting around the p/u, which is normal.
You can change them or have them changed if you have the tools and know how, or you can ignore that and check your oil so you know how often you go thru a qt.
If you do have the exhaust guide seals changed then have them remove the pan also and get them out while you're doing that. Otherwise the exhaust seals really aren't going to hurt anything since the exhaust side is under pressure.
