What is causing this weird noise?

Ok so i have a 1997 Wrangler TJ, so these last two night's it's been around in the mid teen's here in TN. So today on the way to work, i get ready to and pull out of our driveway; so i go to let off the clutch and the jeep rolls forward then just tries to stop on me.... So after work i get ready to back out and it starts going backwards but then i just stop's (almost like someone threw a block of wood behind the tires), so then i go to do it again and something in the rear right end pops fairly loudly.... So i go to pick my brother up and i turn into my grandparents driveway and the rear backend starts shaking(almost like i had a flat tire)..... What could be causing this?

Sounds like somethings let go in your differential.

Pull your dif cover and check for any pieces of steel that may drain out of the oil.

If nothing, grab a flashlight and start inspecting your carrier and gears. If its acting up as bad as you say, something should pop right out at you.

It was actually where I didn't let the gears in it warm up enough during these cold nights.... So glad it wasn't anything major
