Hp30

Are the axle shafts and everything other than gears the same in a hp30 compared to a lp30? I know the gears turn opposite.

Jason 10-03-2012 11:25 AM

R&P are different. Shafts, carrier, etc. are the same between the two.

Alright thanks. I was wondering because I'm looking to regear my tj and would like to upgrade to a hp30 and I was hoping I could just get the housing somewhere

Depending on what you regear from and to, might beed a new carrier.

KingtheZJ 10-03-2012 11:34 AM

if you are regearing there is not reason not to move to an hp30.
and ftr, the carrier break is 3.55/3.73. the vast majority of XJ hp30 are 3.55.
the YJ also and an HP30 and gears from those can be found in 4.10 very easily. any other gears are aftermarket

goldeagle06 10-03-2012 11:35 AM

I have 3:73s now and lookin to go to 4:56 or 4:88.

He has 3.73s, which is good for 3.73 and numerically higher. I assume he's not going the other way.

I know the carrier break. I didn't know what his current ratio was.

i cant see any reason to pillage the LP30 to build the HP. a LP30 with no gears is worth $10 scrap.

complete hp30 (3.55 gears) - $100
d30 3.73+ carrier - $40
gears - $150
install kit -$120

Click that little down arrow next to his vehicle type and you would know. :D

The hp30 is actually stronger than the lp30 isn't it?

KingtheZJ 10-03-2012 11:50 AM

yes. ive heard reports that the engineers at dana say the gears in an hp axle can be up to 30% stronger than the same size in an lp setup. it stems from the way the gears mesh and the deflection of the ring gear.

goldeagle06 10-03-2012 12:07 PM

I was just gonna buy a hp housing and put everything in it from my axle to save some money
