How many miles can you get off a 4 banger

I have a 4 banger with very high miles, around 140K. How many miles do you think you can get off a 97 TJ with a 4cyl?

Check my sig. I have over 207,000 miles and still running strong. Needs a little TLC once in a while, but nothing major.

84 Wagoneer, 207k miles with 4 angry mice under the hood. Uniden CB, Kenwood 2-meter. Tow Hooks, front skid plate. Not pretty, but it runs well, goes where I want it and it's paid for.

well if you are the 2nd owner i hope the first owner changed the oil on time if you are the orig owner as long as you change the oil on time you should be fine well mine is a 4 banger and the first owner of my yj never changed the oil on time sludge in oil pan and started to knock at around 98000 and at 136751 i installed a new engine and trans and i change the oil every 3000 miles, it is geared low and has high rpms and brakes the oil down quicker my 2ct's!

I agree with little red yj....largely depends on its maintenance record. Those 4-bangers on average last about 100,000 to 150,000 miles.

That takes into account those who don't maintain them, and they blow at 100,000 (very common), and those who do maintain them (FROM DAY ONE!) and they last until 200,000 or a little more.

So, if you are the original owner and have maintained it religiously, you may get to 200,000 without a problem. Realistically, I wouldn't expect much more than that without doing some sort of overhaul work, be it minor or major.

Good Luck! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />

I have 175000 on my little 2.5 in my 94 wrangler i am the second owner and i know that the previous owner couldnt have kept up regular maintenance the whole time -- the missing electrodes on the plugs when i pulled them said that -- i dont know how it still ran! that and it was a hockey player that went back and forth from iowa and illinois to michigan all the time, i obtined the YJ with 119000 on it and my buddy still claims it runs better then the rebuilt one that he had, it runs strong (play with the throttle damn near gets a wheelie and i know it could if i tried)i try to be easy on it but i have ran it hard -- silver lake sand dunes in michigan 60 at the bottom of the dune 0 at the top 2nd and 3rd redline all the way -- they will hold up just change your oil and do regular maintenance. If you have that kind of milage on a TJ already it must be mostly highway miles... you should be ok. -- did i mention the 2.5 was going through a quart and a half of oil per week when i got it -- the idiot couldnt figure out the tappet cover bolts wernt tight and the seal had blown as a result! thats ok meant i got it cheap! oh yeah im planning on doing a v-8 swap this summer so if you want an extra 2.5 "just in case" hee hee jk
