How can i get better MPG and power out of my Jeep

I have a 2.5 litre in my jeep and i want better gas milage and more power. If you have any suggestions please tell me. I have tried amny things but nothing seems to work.

There is nothing you can do that will realy work except selling it and getting a 4.0. What do you expect from a 4 banger? What size tires do you run? If they are too tall they will kill what little power you have.

2007, 4 door, powered by a minivan engine, locked and riding on 35's.

What year is your Jeep. If it is fuel injected then you can try a 4.0 throttle body. This might gve a little extra power. But don't expect miracles. I have heard of a lot of people doing this.

2007, 4 door, powered by a minivan engine, locked and riding on 35's.

I believe mileage and power are oxymorons. lighten the jeep up that might help! hehe

There are tons of things you can do but the most significant impact would be injecting the engine. Holly projection is great but somewhat expensive. I think $700. the 4 banger is a good off road engine unless your running really large tires. but the gears can offset the effect of the lagre tires.

if you are going to start throwing money around, I would suggest you buy a different engine

THe year of the jeep is an '84 and i am only running 215/75R15 as tires. and if anyone knows i'd like to know the gear ratio also

It might just be me, but I can't stand the 2.5 L If I ever had one I would light it on fire and dance around it like a Indian. Get a 258, best engine ever made.

Found a 85 CJ7 tub in good shape with
minimal rust. The resto continues....

The gear ratio should be on the tag on the front diff. If it's not, usually the 5 speeds were 4.10 and the 4 speeds were 3.55. Darko is right, swap in a bigger motor if you want more power. I would suggest a 4.0 but that's my opinion. Hamy.

Jp Magazine just did an article on how to increase the mpg for Jeeps... the top of the list mod for your $ was a block of wood and a zip tie.

Go for it.

I don't agree. Making an engine burn fuel more efficiently will increase both. Just compare a modern high-tech engine with an older one - better in both regards!

i do have a 4 cylinder.it's not bad for crawling or other slow type adventures;but on the flip side it is not the fastest thing around on the highway.try a less restrictive intake(you will probably have to build it yourself)is the carb in good shape?an free flow type exhaust will help.you could also try a cam,but it might not be emmisions legal(don't know if you have that pita there or not)it's a four cylinder,it's not the fastest thing out there,but when was the last time you ever saw someone(that is sane) trying to fly over an obstacle?our sport is about slow and easy.i can go everywhere the guys with large horsepower can go and be lighter and easier to pull out when i get stuck.one more benefit of having a 4,more gas in your tank and you don't have to swap out your entire drive train to go have some fun.this is merely my opinion.hth
