Help identifying a small block chevy engine that my YJ wants.

For some reason I seem to aquire stuff that lays around in other peoples garages for free. A couple weeks ago I got a free AMC 360, then a 71 CB500f Honda, and now a SBC. I would love to put this in my YJ, but am trying to find out factory specs on this engine. The casting number is 3970010, I cannot find the head number? There is no little plate on the head like I've seen in most of these motors. The by the water pump housing is V0429TBC. Dunno what that means? Anyone have expierence identifying these engines?

3970010....350...69-80...2 or 4 Found on this site. MorTec, Inc. Chevy Smallblock V-8 Casting Numbers List

350ci, year range 69-80 with 2 or 4 bolt mains. That's a pretty common block. I seem to recall the head casting numbers being found under the valve cover.

If you keep getting that much free crap, we need to hang out. lol

Oh, I'm in no shape to be reading, but here is the casting number locations. Chevy V-8 Engine Block and Head Casting Number Locations

If it ain't broke, fix it till it is!

I have not failed, just succeded in finding many ways that did not work.

Well, depending on the casting date, it's either from a 1970 pickup with 255hp, or a 1979 pickup with 165hp.. The TBC suffix denotes a 4-bolt main block, and the part number (3970010) is a very common block used in the 70's of which there were a few variations.. sounds like a keeper.. a set of vortec heads and a roller cam and she'll be a screamer..

95 Wrangler 2.5 Auto (stock for now)
81 Camaro 454/700R4 (high 11's, 3900lbs, 19mpg)
94 FS Blazer 6.5TurboDiesel (almost stock)
99 VW Jetta TDI 5-speed. 50+mpg, will go 145mph.. Not stock...
