HELP! 1989 Jeep wrangler bellhousing

I have a 1989 Jeep wrangler YJ with a Peugeot transmission. The bell housing has a hole in it about the size of a childs head and I need to find a new one ASAP. Anyone know where I could find one? According to a friend it has a 231 amc peugeot transmission.

I got 2 bell housings 89 2.5L Ax-5 setup. PM if you need it.

Wrangler with a Peugeot trans? You sure? AMC 231 is the transfer case number, not the trans.

It's a 4.2L inline 6. My mechanic said it was a Peugeot. I've been reading around and for the year it was built a peugeot was not uncommon.

You have a BA 10/5. You might just be better off locating an AX-15 with bell housing. Much better tranny for the purpose!

Peugeot transmissions in Jeeps are junk. As noted above, you will probably be much happier in the long run with an AX (Toyota) transmission.

FWIW, yo can use an AX15 out of a Yota with a clock ring, then you get a better syncros and one for reverse IIRC.

"AX-15-66: Remove this snap ring at the synchro hub for 1st/2nd gear. The hub is important, as the outer sleeve doubles as the reverse gear. Hub and sleeve wear could cause gear whine in reverse or cause erratic 1st/2nd shifting. Check hub and sleeve closely. Note the condition of the reverse teeth. Chips and damage are generally the result of grinding the transmission into reverse gear without the vehicle stopped. Reverse is non-synchromesh. Drive in a manner that protects this gear. Even a reusable gear will have some wear at the engagement end of the teeth."

I have actually had mine out and rebuilt it. No synchro in reverse unlike the Toyota that has one for reverse.
