Heep won't start unless pedal to floor, non-existent idle, must feather the go-pedal

It's a 79CJ7 with the 258. When running it runs fairly smooth. Getting started, especially after sitting overnight or for multiple nights is a little trickey. I can't drive it right now due to some issue's I'm addressing this weekend.

BUT, if I can get a heads up on where or what to start with I want to try and diddle her a little on Sunday. Note, it will start up somewhat easier if I've run it a little and shut her down.

Not sure of carb, I ASSume it's a carter, haven't had the air cleaner off to look yet and only had the Jeep itself for about 3 weeks.

Many thanks for any thoughts or input you give,

Blair

A few suggestionsthese are just simple thing to check)

Check the choke. They get stuck shut on the older CJ's.

check the butterfly valve for proper "flappage" If it doesn't move freely, it may be time a minor carb rebuild.

Make sure that your idle adjustment screw hasn't backed out.
