Head Bolt Thread Sealer

Had to remove head on 4.0 - '93 ZJ and noticed in my Haynes manual for installation it states to add thread sealer to the head bolt that is most front of the engine (by thermostat) outside of the valve cover. Also the torque is different from the rest. Is thread sealer really necessary and should the torque be different from the rest?

The book is correct on both counts. The sealer is needed because the bolts goes through the water jacket. If it isn't sealed you will have a coolant leak. The lower torque is used because the sealer acts as a lubricant when the bolt is tightened. If it were torqued at the same value as the other bolts you may damage parts.

So just just to be clear, I add sealer to the threads that will go into the block or at the top of the bolt where it is exposed to the outside (this has the nut end with threads extending over)?
Any suggested sealer?

From the '00 FSM:
(4) Coat the threads of stud bolt No.11 with Loctite
592 sealant, or equivalent.
