is it possible to have fuel injection with absolutely no computer
Chevy had Rochester mechanical FI on some 50s V8 Corvettes (and Impalas I think) and any diesel thats more than about 20 years old uses a mechanical injection pump. I don't know of anything like that that would work on a Jeep though.

I had a 79 Audi Fox that ran a mechanical FI setup on a gas engine. I also had a 68 VW Squareback that had a board full of valve tubes and transistors in the rear, driver side fender. It was pretty rudimentary, I'm pretty sure that half of the tubes were burnt out, but it still ran okay, for a VW. It was a prototype that VW dumped that year. In 79, most VWs got a Bosch injection system that was much better.
