Finding the axle marking on the diff

I know it is supposed to be on the rear axle, but I have looked everywhere for the letters which tell you what ratio and whether it is locked or not. I have a stock 1976 CJ5 258. Does anyone have a picture of the marking, and where it is? I'm wearing out my wire brush.

Its normally a thin metal tab stuck under one of the diff cover bolts. Almost certainly long gone on a '76 CJ.

Great! I was under the impression that it was a stamping on a boss near the center housing.

That's usually just the axle model number, i.e. 30, 44, 60 for Dana axles.
