Engine performance upgrades
all right, i did some research and have learned that replacing the engine from 4cyl to 6cyl will take alot of work and have found that adding/modifying a few things might be an easier choice. what kind of modifications are suggested? i would like to get more power of that little bad boy. also, typicaly how many miles, with proper maintenence, should i expect before my engine takes a dump. i once had a honda CRX with over 200,000 miles on it and it ran as strong as the day i bough it. i sold it to buy my jeep

I've read somewhere about swapping in a 4 litre throttle body!?!?!
Tri-County gear makes an enertia ring that will give you more even torque in offroad situations. Might be worth looking into.

I second the 4.0 tb, have it bored to 60 mm first...also get a tbi spacer and bore it to 62mm, then get 8mm wires, splitfire plugs, new cap/rotor, ase (?) chip, header, 2 1/4" exhaust all the way back...

here is the complete list:
1. Cold air intake with 5" Powerstack cone filter 2. 4.0 TB with taper bored to 60mm 3. Poweraid TB spacer bored to 60mm 4. Intake manifold heatshield 5. Flowmaster 50 series 2.25" muffler 6. High-flow cat 7. Clifford Performance header with 2.25" piping 8. Champion copper plugs 9. Magnecor 8.5mm plug wires 10. Electric fan conversion 11. Speedtweaks IAT adjuster With the package of mods listed above, output should improve by 20% to about 145hp.

But doesn't the TB spacer have a helix bore in the center? If you bore it to 60mm wouldn't it be flat and have really no purpose of being there? And where can you get once for $30 you say??

Oh ok sorry man, just asking about the helix bore. New to the Jeep scene and learning everyday. I knew the height made the power but I was also thinking the helix helped. Now I know it doesn't. What exactly is "ju"? If you can, link please...Thanks for the info.

I just bought a 97 TJ with a 2.5 and am doing the following to upgrade performance:
borla cat-back exhaust Airaid intake MSD Ignition 6a MSD blaster coil 7.5mm wire set I considered the TBS but read somewhere that they were unproved and a waste of money. Maybe with the 4.0's TB, maybe that all would work? So far, just the Airaid intake has made a noticible improvement on HP. Borla should arrive this weekend, and I'm installing the MSD stuff this weekend also. Am considering replacing the cat with a high-flow at the time of the borla install. What do you guys think?
