Engine hesitation

I have a 1979 cj7 with 304 if you increase speed gradually it does fine, but if u step on it it will spit and hesitate then pick up just had carb rebuilt Does anyone have any suggestions ? Thanks

Are you sure the accelerator pump is working? Look into the carb throat and open the butterflies. You should see a shot of gas come out. What you describe sounds like no acc pump.

Please do this with the engine off. Otherwise, you may be eating a backfire.

Figured that went without saying so I didn't mention it. You probably wouldn't see the acc pump squirt with it running anyway.

You would be amazed what folks with no experience will do. I always try to reread my posts to make sure that I include all those "be careful" and "insure that...." disclaimers.
