Engine Color

I have a 1974 CJ5 w/ a 258 and I was wondering what color the factory use to paint the engines.
Thanks Jim

red? not sure. if i ever have to rebuild an engine, i'm painting mine white. Makes it easier to see oil leaks and problems.. most new marine diesels engines are painted light colors just for that reason.. although.. white wont be as pretty as a jet black or fire engine red paint job..
