Does 5:56 gearing exist?

MY father bought a jeep about 1.5 years ago and have been having problems with the rear end. he had it replaced once and when he did the mechanic told him that the gearing in the rear end was 5:56 which we never second guessed but now that we are replacing it again we need to get the gearing right but i can't find 5:56 gearing anywhere for the D35 or the Ford 8.8 that we want to get. So my question is simply Does 5:56 gearing exist and if it does, is it available for the D35 or was there mis-communication and it is really the more common 4:56 gearing?

Short answer, for the D35 4.88 is the deepest they go. Note that even 4.56 is pretty rare in stock form. Was this axle previously regeared? What kind of jeep are we talking about? Engine size? Transmission?

Go do a tooth count.
Divide the number of ring gear teeth by the number of pinion teeth.
This will give you your gear ratio.
