Differential problem I think?? What do you think?

I have a whining in the rear.
I just bought this Jeep December 3, 95 grand Cherokee 4.0, I have been doing a lot of repairs.

It had a bent rear left axle, replaced axle with good junkyard axle new bearing and seal.
Before that I don't know if the rear end was whining because the left rear bearing was making so much noise.

Now I thought it might be making too much noise, whining at lower speeds, but today was first day I took it out on freeway, and when I got it up to 70 75 80 it was whining big-time, wines most as you accelerate, a lot less when you let off.
Is definitely coming from the rear not the tranny.

When I did the rear axle I checked the fluid before I opened it up and it was only slightly low, the fluid was black.
I noticed that it had been leaking some around the pinion seal. The new oil I put in was Mobil1 Synthetic Gear Lubricant LS 75W-90
.
It has the command Trac four-wheel drive, the rear end is a Dana 35C, does this require an additive?, I did not put any additive in.

So! Is my right rear bearing bad making that noise? I doubt but I thought I should ask. Or is it my pinion gear? Or other parts in the rear end? Or drive shaft u joint maybe?

From what I understand it is probably not a good idea for me to try to replace the pinion gear, so how much will it cost me to have this done?

How many miles can I drive it this way without destroying something?

It is more than likely a gear pattern issue since the noise changes under acceleration and coasting. If it was a bearing you could change the sound by slightly turning left to right and changing the loads on each axle bearing.

Could also be a pinion bearing.

Sounds like you have the exact problem i got!! I'm thinking of replacing my Dif with one from a Junkyard next week i just can't stand the whining noise. My buddy has had the whining from his ZJ for a couple of years now, and its still going strong.
