Differential Help

I have a 1999 Grand Cherokee Laredo thats 4 wheel all time and has Quadra-Trac 2. I am going to have to replace the front differential in it and was wondering if someone could tell me what years would be compatible with mine and if a differential from a cherokee that has 2 wheel drive would work in it. Thanks for any help.

Replacing the front differential requires technical skills and tools beyond what your average shade tree mechanic possesses. It will be easier and cost less to simply replace the complete front 4x4 axle assembly with a used 4x4 axle from the junkyard. Just make sure the axle is out of another WJ Grand Cherokee and that the gear ratio in the donor axle matches the gear ratio in your Grand Cherokee axles. Because you have Quadra-Trac 2 all time 4 wheel you cannot use a 2wd front axle.
