What are the differences between the HO and regular 4.0??

I have a '95 grand cherokee with the reg. 4.0 and would like some more HP.

What is the factory window sticker milage for the 4.0 and 4.0 HO.??

I belive the diff between the two, is that the 4.0 HO has about 40 more HP and it has a better air induction and the timing is advanced.

4.0 = 177HP
4.0HO = 190HP

13HP difference, on average. The HO's vary from 190HP sometimes by only 2 or 3 HP either way depending on the year/model vehicle, but most are 190HP.

I believe it is due due intake/exhaust/etc., or some combination. Physically/mechanically, they are the same engine.

The only differences are the Intake and Exhaust efficientcies. Other than that they are identical.

Ahhh, where can I read up on it? I have the 4.0HO and was thinking that some aftermarket parts I won't get as much gains from. So I wanted to have more info to base my decisions on.

My understanding is that the 4.0 puts out its horsepower and torque maximum between 2100 and 3000 rpm. The 4.0HO puts out its horsepower and torque maximum at 4000 - 5000 rpm.

i posted a similar 4.0 question...

apparently, the JGC has the 4.0HO, but its just not marked in any way as being an HO. but its already an HO engine. as far as i know, the engine you have puts out about 195 HP, but im not sure.

other than that, i dont know the differences between regular and HO.

Difference between high-output and standard 4.0 was mainly slightly better flow with the exhaust manifold and the fact that Chrylser had an aftermarket company design and develop the fuel injection for the HO. 4.0L is as stock as can be. Depending on the year, HO's could have 190-196 hp. Non-HO's were in the mid to upper 170's.

Does this mean tyhat the HO is less likely to benifit from these intake kits that everyone says gives better mileage?
