Dana 35 spartan locker problem please help.

I recently purchased a spartan locker for my 94 grand cherokee. Dana 35 1.5 bore 27 spline.

Now my problem is it one of the drivers doesnt seem to fit. The c-clips are butted up against the sidegears and i can get one driver in but when i go to put the other driver in its seems like the axle extends too far past the groove for the c-clip to fit the driver in. This is really driving me nuts. I have tried removing the carrier and assembling it but that wont work either because i cant get the c-clips in afterwards. Im hoping this is somthing simple im missing, thanks guys.

I've got a Sparton but in a Dana44 I did have to take my gears out to pull the pin but after that I was AOK. Some advise don't put a locker in a Dana 35.See JP mag June 2012 for more info.

Everything is in and working. I dont know why it wasnt cooperating at first but i eventually got it.

Ive heard its not a great idea to lock a 35 but its just my daily driver and mild trails/mud puddles here and there. Is the 35 really THAT weak?
