Cutting off Exhaust tip (more aggressive sound needed)

Just got a Flow Master 40 Series put on my 08 JK, and I love the sound but the volume isn't there. It has a nice deep rumble I'm gratefull for unlike other exhaust that have that ricey sound. However, I heard one guy say he cut off the piping after the muffler and this nearly doubled the sound level!

Can anyone confirm this?

Does the sound get crappier/ricyier or just same sound but louder?

I have a nice shiney exhaust tip. What if say I don't want to go balls to the ball just yet. Can I say cut a few inches off the pipe coming out the muffler and move my exhaust tip up. Will this make it louder?

Having a tailpipe does make a different sound and quieter too. You might try cutting the tail pipe off right behind the muffler, just make sure you are not cutting an exhaust hanger out of the system and letting the muffler hang un-supported. If cuting the tailpipe off, you might consider buying or having an exhaust shop put a turn down on the pipe. It will be louder, resonate more and should make it deeper sounding.

I have a 40 on mine with a turn down. It has a nice, deep and typical flowmaster sound but I am getting a little tired of the noise and will probably get a tail pipe made for it. You might keep your old tailpipe handy in case you decide to put it back on.
