Could it be my clutch master cylinder?

I have an 01 TJ w/ a 4.0L 5-speed, has 99,600 miles on the clock. Today, it was in a LOT of stop & go traffic. On the end of my journey, I noticed I was losing preasure in the clutch. Finally, if I held down the clutch long enough, all preasure was gone and the clutch would engage. I let it cool for a couple of hours and went to the gym in it and it did the same.

Whats the life expectancy of a master cylinder in these things?

Any ideas what it could be?

And is the clutch/master cylinder expencive to replace? aka price?

Thanks

If that's what it turns out to be, you'll need to buy the master / slave assembly as a set. They come pre-filled with brake fluid to the correct level. DC for some reason thought it would be a good idea to make them not changeable.

yeah Im having the same problem but mine is a small leak where the slave cylinder goes into transmission. I just carry around a small bottle of brake fluid(DOT 3) and top her off probably once a week, anyway goodluck

Ok... another dumb question... would i just fill up the brake fluid container on the driver side? or is there some other place i should put the fluid for the clutch.

I appologize... i'm not mechanically inclined.

No thats for the brakes, the master cylinder is a black plastic L shaped tube with a plastic acrew on cap, fill it half way put the rubber thing back in it and put the cap back on and pump the clutch. You should start to feel the pressure build back up. Becareful taking it off they like to stick and i broke mine so its a pain to get it to screw on right now. And about the price I want to say it was up around $180 at autozone

sorry the master cylinder is located right behind brake reservoir on the firewall, that might help you out a little more
