Trying to adjust the clutch on my 61 CJ5, new engine just installed with a new clutch, I got the clevis to turn (to shortern the cable) but can't get it back on the mount, have to turn it back to where it was, is there a way to hold clutch apart to get this to adjust? Thanks

What is wrong with the existing length?
The pedal should have about 1" of free pedal at the top when the components are installed.
While you re in there, it is always good to check all the bellcranks for wear. Many times the pins will egg out the holes, some times to the point fo failure.

Found 4 or 5 holes in the bellhousing just under where the cable goes in, put a screw driver in a hole and was able to push the clutch fork, making the cable longer after I adjusted it, can now get in gear whithout grinding. Think that is what the holes are for???????
