cj Dana 30 outer, dana 44 hp inner?

So I've been doing some thinking, I have a cj Dana 30 polished turd, and I broke my 4.56 ring pinion. If I was to use my outer Dana 30 nuckles and a hp Dana 44 diff housing and guts, weld the Dana30 nuckles to the Dana 44 axle tubes, run a Dana 30 super 30 spline kit (readily available) and use a dana 44 locker and differential internals.

I'm not seeing a problem with this, I understand the ch Dana 30 has the same size ball joints as the 44 and the ill reuse my Dana 30 outers in a cromo set up.

Go ahead a through what problems I may have at me, I'm not seeing any at the Moment.

Am I missing something?

I run a cut down Scout dana 44 front axle, I used the scouts C's off the 44.
I used the CJ knuckles ,spinles, and brakes off my wide track 86.

I don't think the year will matter much, since I'm just using the housing, and then running super 30 Dana 30 axle shafts, a locker like arb or ox that is a 30 spline set up, then I'll use the Dana 30 outer C"s welded to the dana 44 tubes. There is a .25 inch difference in size 44 being 2.75 diamter and the 30 being 2.5 but if the super 30 kit is designed to fit thru the Dana 30 it should slide right out the 44 tube and thru the Dana 30 c"s?

I'm still guessing at all this but I'm thinking about buying a 67 ford Dana 44 housing and tossing most of it and building like said with my good parts I already have and the Dana 44 housing..

It's hard for me to find a scout Dana 44 front end but I guess I could keep looking.

See the deal is I have a nice Dana 30. The ring and pinion just can't take my driving. So, my nice cromo outer stubs all new wheel bearings warn premium hubs new calipers new rotors, 760 ujoints, I would reuse in my Dana 44 hybrid 30 build.

Then I'll sell my detroit, my iner 27 spline yukon cromo axles, and my poison spider diff cover. Use that money to help buy the new super 30 axles, 30 spline so they will fit the Dana 44 locker arb or ox, and ring and pinion set up.

Any flaws to my idea ? Or am way over thinking this and making it difficult?

Also this will retain my wheel bolt pattern.

I've read guys that buy this year Chevy Nuckle with this year ford brake with this year chevy Beerings and this year stubs with this yeah c"s and to be honest that sounds like allot of money. And a lot of small parts, verses my thought of locker axle shaft and axle housing?

Thanks for your comments please continue to bounce ideas or thoughts around. I'm kinda excited about a custom built axle under my rig.

1981 wide track cj7 built amc20 trussed locked one piece.

It's curently getting all new body work, armor, paint Wheel stretch. Hollokon long leafs with revolver shackles and rancho 9000 shocks New seats and cage.

This custom front axle will just add to love, then again I don't want to spend money on this axle and then end up having a custom shaft, I like the idea of being able to use the super 30 shafts that are readily available. So once it's built I'd like to be able to long on to the Internet and order any part I need to replace.

Thanks again for your time and thoughts.

Do you think a 67 ford c will work with my outer nuckles ? Then it would be the correct diameter. Unlike the Dana 30 diameter. Ohh see I also have some heavy duty tie rod bar and drag link bar, if that's what it's called. That I purchased a few years back and that are on my Dana 30, I planed on trying to reuse them since they are nice. Hmmm thoughts?

Also this hp 67 ford has the diff on the wrong side, so I'll have to press the tubes out and swap the sides. I like the HP but, pressing tubes out and in shouldn't the to hard right, even if I have to pay a shop to do it.

Why did you cut them down? Is your rear narrow track or is it wide track? If the rear is wide track the. The Dana 44 scout should only be 2 inches wider right? I would have run a wheel spacer in the rear so as not to have custom shafts. Or am I missing something? (im being sincere, am I missing Something)

So I emailed alloy Usa today and according to them, the Dana 44 and the super 30 Spline Dana 30s have a slightly different pitch to the splines.

It sounded like NO they are not interchangeable.

But then I was thinking I need a readily available shaft on the market that will fit a 44 inner and still fit my 30 outers.

Bluerubiconrich have me a good idea, the scout inner shafts are a perfect match for my dilemma, that way if I ever brake a shaft it won't be a custom hard to find part. My front wheel width will grow two inches but I run a 1 inch wheel spacer any ways so I'll just take em off the front and wammy!

So I guess I'll use scout inner shafts to a custom high piñon 44 housing, built for the scout shafts? What y'all think about that ?

Cromo scout shafts it is then. Now the question is should I step them up to a 33 spline inner or stick with the oem easier to find 30 spline. Since I'm most likely going ox locked? I have the choice with the ox of 30 or 33 spline.

Course nothing Would upset me more if in 5 years nobody makes a 33 replacement Cromo shaft.

What ya think?
