Chevy 350/SM465 combo into a TJ?

Ok guys, my dream crawler is slowly fading away. I bought a 97 TJ a few years back with every intention of striping out everything Jeep and replacing it with Chevy parts. I have a built Chevy 350, SM465, and NP205 that I had planned on putting into the TJ body and frame. I bought the V8 conversion from Advance Adapters (should have made it myself), and started to put the power train in the past weekend, only to find out that the shift is about 7" more forward than the AX15 shifter came through. It seems that the shifter would be coming through right at the firewall. Has anyone placed this setup into their TJ? I really need some help or pictures. I know I could go back to plan "B" and run a TH350 setup. but that would cut my first gear ratio in half.

are you able to acquire a long shifter, put it in a press and put a couple bends in it to clear your dash? i have a cj that i did this to, but i don't have as much dash sticking out as you do. you aren't the only one doing this swap, check the pirate board. i'm sure there are suggestions to get over this hurdle. good luck...don't give up!

I thought about that as soon as I seen it was hitting. You are right about the dash being larger. I also have the same question on Pirate. I had a guy send me pictures of his TJ, but he is still running the 4.0 which is a longer block. I hate to do a hack job, but I really want the low 1st gear ratio. There is a will, I'm just looking for the way...lol!

heat it with a torch and bend it down.... i have the same combo going in my yj and that's what im planning on doing lol

There is alot more room in a YJ. The dash in the TJ almost comes to the floor. The only thing I see that would help is a body lift, and I HATE body lifts.

Question for you guys using the AX 15 trans with the 350. Mine has a 4cyl, what changes to my transfer case do I have to do for it to mate up to the AX 15 tranny.

spark plug. to do that you will have to get a 23 spline shaft and replace the 21 spline that is in there now. I had to rebuild a transfer case to fit my 6 cyl cause i could only get a 4 cyl one cheap so i rebuild it with my 23 spline since my parts were still good just not the case. i cracked mine. Everythings the same just diff size splines. hope that helped

I wouldnt use an Ax15 with a decent 350. Get a NV3550. It will handle the power a little better.

You mean to tell me that nobody is running a SM465 behind a 350 in a TJ frame?

I know its been done in a YJ, but I have no clue in a TJ.
