Check engine light issue

Been chasing this one for about a month. My wife's WJ keeps throwing teh following code:

P1491 Rad Fan Control Relay Circuit An open or shorted condition detected in the radiator fan control relay control circuit. This includes PWM solid state relays.

I replaced the origional relay about 3 months ago with an aftermarket one from Autozone after the OEM one quit. Since then I get this code intermittantly. Sometimes I can reset the comp and drive for days with no code; other times it comes on again immediately. The fan works as it should (ie it only runs when engine gets hot then shuts off again) and the engine temp is good. Not sure how I could have an open or shorted circuit in a solid state relay? Anyone else have issues with a replacement not from the dealer? Is this one of those "only an OEM will work" things?

I really would like to get rid of the constant engine light so it can do its job if something else goes wrong.
