Casting number help

I have a 1981 Jeep cj 5. I went to replace the valve cover gasket and discovered that the holes do not line up. After further investigation it looks like this is not the original motor. I think it is a later model engine. a 4.2 liter straight 6 cyl. I found this casting number 509013 can anyone tell me info. on this engine? I need a new valve cover that will fit? help please I need to Ride!!

What is the valve cover made of(the one on there)? If it is plastic the early YJs came with them. I believe they can only be replaced with another plastic cover.

You are missing a number. Should have 7 digits. Look for the date build code. Passenger side of the block behind the dist look for a flat pad, it will be stamped there. Report back with the numbers and the letter. 81 block casting # 3235444 but that is for a 81-85 and a 86 and a 87-89, but there are some differences in the blocks even with the came casting #.

the one on there now is metal. 509013 is on the side of the motor below the valve cover, it has 86 on the other side near the top of the motor.

Are you sure the second "O" is not a "C" ?
5= 1985
09=September
C= would mean it is a 258
13=13th day of the month
This is stamped in the flat pad. It is not a casting right?
