Can 2.4 L engine handel 33 x 12.50 tires and 15" x 8" wheels?

Hi,

Can someone tell me if its ok to install 33 x 12.50 tires with 15x8 wheels and a 4 inch lift kit on a 2.4 L , V4 engine (Jeep Wrangler).? Some say that the engine will not be able to handel it and the engine will break down soon.

I dont plan to do go offroads or anything just use it on highways and on road as a daily driver. Thank you in advance.

OK, first thing is you have a 2.5L I4 (inline 4 cylinder).

33's with stock gearing will pretty much kill your highway power/performance.

What's more likely to fail is your rear axle if you drive it hard. The D35 rear is known to have very thin axle shafts compared to most others.

For mall crawling and street driving, stick with 31's and a slightly smaller lift (2" BB would be best). Once you start getting higher than that you run into getting a SYE and CV driveshaft in the rear, relocating replacing trackbars, new control arms, etc.

I disagree to an extent. The four is hard pressed to provide enough power to cause the 35 to fail, even with larger tires. However given that as stated above, without regearing your rig will loose much of whatever performance it has, be it off or on road.

i had 35's on my 4banger for almost a year. the check engine light would come on every now and then b/c of 02 sensors and bs like that. it will be fine if you like going slow. i blew the torque converter in my 2.5 4 times within 2 months. if you have an auto trans. that would be something to worry about. but then again i had 4:56 gears and 35 inch tires

I've got 33s on my Jeep with a 2.5L. It's been that way for years. I can manage to get about 65 MPH on the freeway in 4th gear. 5th gear is useless. Offroad has no problem though, since I'm going slow. It hasn't won any races. But I didn't buy a race car.

Right now I'm running 33x10.50 bfg at's with the 2.5, just moved up tire size from 31x10.50 pro comp at's (stock 4.10s). I havn't had them long enough to calc anything accurate for mileage but honestly I have not noticed any power differences since gettin the new rubber mounted. I can't speak for 33x12.50s BUT I can recommend the 10.50's as an alternative, lighter tire. (Just so happens I lucked out and love the skinny tire look)

I have a 4inch lift winch and aftermarket front bumper stock axles and gears 4.10 and I run 33 12.50 15 and while I agree lots of power loss and I couldn't imagine doing that with auto mine is a stick yoour not going to break crap as long as your not slaming the gas and then popping out clutch there is not enough ponies I been driving for over a year as well and no issues but would def prefer 4.88 gearing
