I am finalizing purchase of a 2006 LJ Auto. I will not be using this for off-roading. Just for something that will be good in the snow and a DD.
I am just curious what is the best performance change for the buck I can make to give the Jeep a little pep.
I see some Jeeps with a Banks RAM Air Intake System - Mostly to improve sound?
Anything that is relatively low dollars that can have a good performance gain?
None of the bolt on stuff makes any real difference except a lighter wallet. Forced induction is a decent option. Internal engine work can yield results although cost benefit there can be questioned. Most important thing is probably proper axle gearing. That transmission has a high OD and a TCM that likes to shift quickly. Leads to needing lower than "normal" axle gearing. For example, with 33" tires you would want your axles at 5.13. Also, not your question, but important to note that transmission benefits from supplemental cooling as tires get bigger.
A DD - changes the big picture SO -
Transmission cooler. No not true performance but best money you will spend.
A little pep - maintenance, quality parts and watch the BS.
The best regear recommendations are based on the rpms at the final drive gear. Meaning that you are regearing for the road. The funny thing is that the best recommendations for the road often seem to be lower than most expect, which ends up being better for off road anyway.
Incidentally, you live in Utah. But your Jeep will only see street use? Do you realize that you live in Utah?!
