Back fire

So I have a 97 wrangler with 121k. It is spiting and sounds like it is back firing thru the carb but I know that there is no carb. It is almost like it has a hiccup. Anyone got any ideas???

Do you have any codes in it? Does it backfire constantly or just after you let off the gas?

So I went and hooked it up to the dyno. The read 21. I was told the throttle body censer and the GPS censer. Do you think that could be it? Also he wants to charge me $550 to do both. What do you think???

Was it a TPS (throttle positioning sensor) that he said was bad?

I'm guessing you have the 4.0 six cylinder?

Do you have code 21 from pulling the codes using the key on key off method or do you have a P0121 from a handheld scanner that plugged into your OBDII port?

Also, what do you mean by the GPS sensor?

I took it to a shop and they plugged it in. The code on there hand held read 21. I am not really sure what the GPS censer is that is just what he told me. I am not sure what it is. I want my jeep fixed lol

I'd take it to another shop, and have them scan it. Ask them if they can write down the codes with the cost to fix the issue(s). $550 seems steep for just replacing a throttle positioning sensor (TPS) if that is the only thing wrong.

A handheld scanner for OBII vehicles should give P-codes that are 4 digit, so your 21 has me confused. They should have said it has a P0021 or P0121, etc.

Using the Jeep's computer, you only get 2 digit codes, like a 12, 21 or 55.
