ok the lower ball joint is really kicking my a$$! i have been working on this one ball joint for two days now and it has not budged. i have the large balljoint kit from advance auto and no luck. i have hit the side of the ball joint with a 3lbs hammer while tension was on it with the press and even bought a propane torch and tried to heat it with no luck. i am pretty much exhausted and dont know what else to try. i see post about the "angled" adapter but what is meant by angled adapter. when you say angled you mean that the cylinder would sit at an angle when set on a flat surface like the leaning tower in italy if that is the case this kit may not have it. this is the kit i have from advance auto parts http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_Kit-46-Ball-Joint-U-Joint-Service-Set-(23-piece)-Powerbuilt-Tools_9150043-P_N3492_T%7CGRP2083________
Hopefully you have gotten it by now. Heat and hitting the hammer to break the tension are both very good methods to try and get it to come out. Have you tried doing both at the same time while your pressing it out? How much leverage to you have. I have a 1/2' breaker bar and about 3 ft of jack handle and I still thought I was going to have a hernia haha. Good luck man.
...and by the tapered one, theres one with the lower cup that the ball joint falls into once u press it out for the lower that has a slightly angled lip. the lower ball joint goes in at a kinda funny angle, look closesly and you will see it.
Yea I pretty much feel like a ******* I was press the balljoint in thinking I was pressing it out. Once I figured that out and 2 breaker bars later it came right out with ease.
