'98 XJ. P0700, Transmission Control System Malfunction. Thoughts?
I recently purchased a 1998 Jeep Cherokee Sport, Automatic Transmission. I noticed that the check engine light comes and goes. I had a co-worker hook his computer up to it and it gave me the code in the title, P0700 Transmission Control System Malfunction. After some googling, I found that a faulty NSS can cause a few symptoms that I've noticed. It doesn't feel as though it's shifting at the correct time (I could be wrong, it's my first Cherokee). My reverse lights are also not functioning. It's also flying through gas at an incredible rate (this may or may not be due to it not shifting correctly).
Has anyone else had any experience with this? I'd like to know if there is any other reason why I might be getting this combination of code and symptoms before I embark on an NSS rebuild.
Edit: If there is a section on the forums where a post for a problem like this might be better off, please advise. I'm fairly new here and this seemed like the place to post it.
