97 wrangler sport transfer case grind HELP!

whats up guys,

im new to this forum but i have a potential major problem. when i go to switch my jeep into 4LOW i have no problems but as soon as i go to put it into 4HIGH it doesnt engage and grinds like its not seating right into gear. any suggestions?

Well, a bit more information would help, Do you have a body lift? Tranfer Case Drop? MML?

It is likely that the linkage needs to be adjusted, there is a nut on the rod in the linkage, loosen the nut, put the TC into 4 high with the linkage on the TC (you will feel it click in), put the shift lever into 4 High. Tighten nut. You should be good to go.

well the guy at the dealer ship says it couldnt adjust right so it needs to be replaced. he said adjusting it didnt help. now im thinkin hes trying to rip me off.


opinions?>???

No your just not fully engaging it, happens to me too when i try to go to quick, when you put your jeep in or out of 4LO just make sure your goin a little forward or back and be quick when you do shift it, if you stop then it wont lock in and when you hit the gas or put it in gear you get that gnarly grinding noise
