96 Grand Cherokee oil pressure loss

I have a 96 Grand Cherokee wit the 318 cbi 5.2L engine. My oil pressure is always at a constant 40 psi. But while driving home tonight I happened to notice that the oil pressure was fluctuating between 20-30 psi. I'm not sure if my oil is just getting thin, if it's the bearings, the sender, or what. If anybody has had this problem or has any idea on what the problem is please let me know, thanks.
