94 xj overheating
Hey guys I've taken off the header and its not cracked and the gasket isn't blown, it's got a new radiator also. What do you guys think is making it overheat and have a little smoke out the tailpipe. It's a 94 and has 110,000 miles on it. Overheats after about 15 minutes.
Do you mean the exhaust header or the engine head?
Are you loosing coolant?
Is the a/c on when she gets hot?
Is the electric fan working? How old is the water pump?
Stock radiator hoses?
Are you sure the gauge is accurate? How hot is it when it overheats on you?
Sorry for so many questions. But they are gonna be asked soon.
Loosing coolant? Yes
A/C? Not working
Electric fan working? Yes
Water pump? 3-4 months
Stock radiator hose? No
Gauge accurate? Not sure how do I test it?
Sounds like the head gasket was bad. They don't always look obvious but could've been leaking.
What temp did the gauge say when it overheated?
When it overheated was it steaming or boiling over?
Best way to test the gauge is to use a laser temp gun. I bought one for $20 at harbour freight.
Turned out to be a hairline fracture in the head and the gasket was blown
