87 yj (5 spd to auto swap, removing lift)

Can I swap my 5 speed out with an auto Trans ??? What do I need? Is there a car Trans that will fit? I need everything, brackets, linkages

I also want to take out the lift kit, but not sure how long the shackles SHOULD be.
Thanks Rick

Yes you can. But would be (in my opinion) better to swap out for a HO setup from a Cherokee. Would get fuel injection, auto trans and the computer to run the trans. More power and efficiency. Around here a Cherokee can be had cheap 500-700.

what size sawzall blades does it take to fit 40's?

Trans will bolt up yes. But you will need the computer to run the trans, that why I suggest finding a newer engine and running all the same setup.

You won't necessarily need a computer for the trans. It depends on what trans you use.

OP, Anything in particular you're looking to get out the auto trans? Do you want to keep the overdrive? If you can deal with a 3 speed auto, the TF999 found in late Cjs and early Wranglers will bolt up to the engine (not sure about the transfer case) and doesn't use a computer. And it's a factory trans so should be a fairly straightforward swap. But it is a 3 speed with no o/d.
