46RH question

Hello Jeep mongers.. I have a 94 ram truck with a 46RH Tranny.. New territory for me. It belongs to a friend of mine, he gave me the truck to see if i could repair it.. I have a Transmission from another vehicle waiting to replace it IF i need to. Symptoms: Will pull in REVERSE and LOW gear only.. Will not Budge when put in Drive. Could this be a Solenoid Valve or something possibly stuck somewhere? Of Debris in the Valve body? Or is the Tranny Toast?
I'm not new to mechanics but have never done anything to an auto tranny but change the filter or added / changed fluids... Governors etc.. Never had one to stop pulling on me.. Where should I start?
