4 wheel low stopped working

i have a 1993 wrangler, have had it about 3 years, all stock with a 2-3 inch lift and 33'' tires. it has always shifted and ran perfect. now last weekend camping, it worked on the trip, and when we turned it on to head back. NOTHING in 4 wheel low. 2 wheel and 4 high still work fine. but in 4 low there is a slight grinding/rubbing sound from under the jeep. i going to get out there today and check the fluids. can anyone please give some help if you know of the problem. thanks alot

Take shift linkage off the case and shift it manually. Likely just loose linkage. Then adjust the linkage and tighten and enjoy.

I finally got the shift link off and shifted it a little more manually and the grinding sound was Evan worse. I moved it around sum and nothing made 4 wheel low work. I was able to get it back so 2 & 4 high both work. Any other ideas?

so will it be best for me to try and fix the gears in this transfer case, or buy a new/used/rebuilt (hopefully something not to expensive) np231?? i have looked up a few used for sale online for $200 there is one a guy had rebuilt but he doesnt know how many spline input shaft it has, he thinks 23. is this a good deal? how hard would it be to replace the input shaft if it were the wrong amount of splines?

I would get a different transfer case cause yours is full of metal from those gears stripping and no telling how damaged the rest of it is so I would get a new or used one just make sure the splines are the same, compare a new one and a junk yard, if you get it from the junk yard make sure it has fluid still in it and change it when you get it, and make sure 2 wheel and 4 wheel and 4 low work before you leave

How do I make sure all gears work? And to tell how many splines, do i just count them?

Yea that's all it is just count them, and spin the input and change the lever and make sure the front spins and it spins slower in low
