from a 4 banger to an I6?

Anybody with experience upgrading from the 4 cyl. to the I6?

I'm looking for a 97 or newer TJ, but prices on the I6 are just stupid high.

I have a 997 4 banger and while it is cheaper to get into it, if you want to do an engine swap, you'll need to swap in a stronger transmission as well. Once you factor that in, you are in I6 territory.

If you are going to do an engine swap, go with a smallblock V8. I hear the LS2's that are in the new Vette will be available from gm parts. It'd be interesting to drop one in, but the computer controls could be a pain to work.

Older smallblocks would probably be a wiser way to go.

Keep moving forward. But keep an eye on history, for if you don't, you are doomed to repeat it.

It will cost less to purchase a TJ with a I6 than to swap one in on a 4cyl.

A lot or people will chime in here that they can pick up a 4.0 and a tranny for a few 100$ but you still have to put it in and do all the wiring and research.

If you don't have a jeep yet don't buy one with a 4cyl and do a swap it will not save you any money.

That's what I love about this board...the straight poop.

I know I want the 6cyl. for the highway and in hopes of towing a PWC.

Thanks for the info.

or you could just swap in a hemi and keep the stock gauges. I wanted to keep the stock guages, so that made me decide to swap in a 6 or save the pennies and put in hemi when my four angry squrriels die. No swap is cheap and all of them take work. You just have to decide what details or fetures you want or will use and what you will be using it for.
