4.7 stroker or 350 chevy?

Hey guys, I am not too comfortable with the mechanics of engines but i feel the best way to learn to to build em up and fix um. Anyway, a friend and i were thinking of pitching in and getting either a cheap cherokee with a 4.0 or just get the engine itself. Anyway we were thinking that it you would really learn alot about engines and stuff by rebuilding it and in this case stoking it. We want to make a stroker 4.0 = 4.7 That way we could learn alot and create something great. And if we screw up and ruin it, hey it was a cheap motor anyway. Well my friends father said that if you are going to be putting a new motor in dont waste the money on a stoker kit, just get a chevy 350. Wouldnt the stroker be cheaper? He didnt think so but i do. Am I wrong? Anyone know which is easier and or cheaper? Id like to do the stoker because its different.

depends on how far into you get on either, what kind of performance do you want?

you can get 240 hp for around a grand in a stroker

swapping a 350 chevy into a jeep, while it may be fun, it is fairly hard...

Basically I want to be different. The 350 swap is fairly common and id like to do the work on the 4.0 so i become familiar with it. Basically the motor will not be going into my YJ it will probably make its way to either a XJ or MJ. Im shooting for 260+hp and atleast 300lbft. torque. I want to keep the driveline stock, maybe some small mods so she can handle it better. If its a Dana 35 change out the axle shafts to the new 30 spline shafts. I dont knwo what tranny i want, i know the AX-15 wont hold up but i wonder if the AW-15 would. This is all food for thought, i dont know when id be doing this but basically i wanted to be different and keep it Mopar. We will see.

check out the stroker group on yahoo, they have good info, also check my site for some good 4.0 info, and good links (dan hido, dino savva....)

I will be building a stroker as soon as funds and time are on my side

I say 350... maybe something along the lines of this...

I was sorta implying that it would be a cheap install. Where not much money was spent. If i had the money id do a great 350 swap. That looks great guy. Damn jealousy runs through me. But money is short and it needs to be cheap. Great job tho!

Build the Super Hero 4.0 and put it into your Jeep - take out the 4.0 in yours and build it to be a SuperHero as well and put it into another Jeep - and do it again and again. The more engines you do, the easier it becomes.
